Twin Telepathy
What is it?
- Houghton Event- Gemma had “a feeling” that her twin upstairs was in trouble, when she went to check on her, she found her sister Leanna suffering a seizure in the bathtub.
- Twins in Sports- A common strategy for coaches in recruiting is to take twins who seem to work very well with each other on the field. Also, some twins choose to become a package deal when being pursued by coaches because they “need” the other.
- Feelings/ Emotions- Many twins claim they experience the same emotions or know immediately when another is in pain emotionally or physically
- Twins Separated at Birth- There are cases where twins separated at birth live similar lives, engage in relationships with similar people and have the same interest even though they have never formally met.

- “Extra Sensory Perception”- the idea that twins “feel” similar things because they are so closely related, their brains are so closely matched and work in the same way so they know how the other would react to certain things
Results
- Yes, “Twin Telepathy” is Real- Monozygotic (Identical) twins are from the same fertilized egg which can split any time within the first 12 days of development. Identical Twins are genetically more similar than fraternal twins, which leads them to share similar interests and behaviors.
- No, Twin Telepathy is Not Real- There is a difference between being close and having telepathy. Twins who have “telepathy” are simply very close and have the same interests and behaviors. This does not mean that one can predict the behavior of the other or communicate telepathically at all.
